IMPORTANT: THE STUDENTS WILL BE HAVING THEIR FINAL CULMINATING/PERFORMANCE TASK ON FRI JAN 16 NOW INSTEAD OF THUR JAN 15. I HAD TO DO THIS BECAUSE OF THE BUS CANCELLATIONS. THIS WILL ONLY BE 1 PERIOD AND IS WORTH 9% OF THE STUDENTS’ FINAL GRADE IN THE COURSE. I MENTIONED TO THE STUDENTS THAT THE CULMINATING TASK WILL CONSIST OF ONLY THINKING & INQUIRY QUESTIONS. STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN 4 QUESTIONS AND WILL HAVE TO DO 3.
I began the class today by taking up any homework questions the students had from yesterday’s class. I took up the one question that was asked on the black board. I also mentioned to the students that there were a few questions from yesterday’s homework that I had not taught them and were actually part of today’s lesson. I told the students I would re-assign these questions (Pages 460 & 461 #5, 10b & 11). After taking up the homework, I then told the students we would be doing a new lesson today (this is the last new lesson we will do for the course). The title of today’s lesson was “8.2 Compound Interest: Determining Future Value”. I first went over a few definitions and then gave the students the compound interest formula (A = P(1 + i)^n). I then did a few examples before assigning the homework for the students to do for the remainder of the period (Pages 460 & 461 #5, 10b & 11 and Page 468 #1 to 6). I will take up any questions the students have at the start of tomorrow’s class or students can email me directly if they have any questions (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.
