IMPORTANT:  I WILL ALLOW THE STUDENTS TO HAVE A “CHEAT SHEET” FOR THEIR FINAL EXAM ON WED JAN  28.  THIS CHEAT SHEET IS 8.5″ BY 14″ (LEGAL SIZE PAPER) DOUBLE SIDED AND THE STUDENTS CAN WRITE ON IT (NOT TYPED) WHATEVER THEY WANT (EXAMPLES, FORMULAS …ETC).  STUDENTS CANNOT PHOTOCOPY SOMEONE ELSE’S SHEET.  I WILL GIVE THE STUDENTS TIME IN CLASS ON TUE JAN 20, WED JAN 21 AND THUR JAN 22 TO WORK ON THEIR “CHEAT SHEETS”.  STUDENTS CAN BRING THE CHEAT SHEET TO THEIR EXAM ON JAN 28.

I told the students today that I would be giving them another review package titled “MFM1P Exam Review #3” to work on in class today.  The students could work on this review today or they could work on their “cheat sheets”.   I also gave the students another package yesterday titled “Cumulative Review Chapter 1 – 7″ which is from the textbook.  This review package is from the textbook and is for extra practice for those students that would like to have additional questions to help them study for the final exam.  I told the students they did not have to complete this review package for homework but can ask me questions in class tomorrow or can email me up till the final exam on Jan 28. My email address is  (abawa@office.ldcsb.on.ca).

TEJ3M/4M – Jan 22, 2015

IMPORTANT:  THE STUDENTS WERE GIVEN THE 2ND PART OF THEIR FINAL PROJECT ON MON JAN 12.  THE FIRST PART FOR THE GRADE 12’S WAS FROM THE ROBOTICS UNIT AND FOR THE GRADE 11’S WAS FROM THE ELECTRONICS UNIT.  EACH PART IS WORTH A TOTAL OF 15% (THE TOTAL FINAL PROJECT IS WORK 30% FOR THE COURSE).  THE DUE DATE FOR PART 2 IS TODAY (JAN 22) WHICH IS THE LAST DAY OF CLASS.  STUDENTS CANNOT HAND IN THEIR FINAL PROJECT AFTER TODAY WITHOUT PRIOR DISCUSSION WITH THEIR TEACHER.

On Mon Jan 12 I talked to both the grade 11’s (TEJ3M) and grade 12’s (TEJ4M) about the second part of their final project (due Thur Jan 22).  I first talked to the grade 11’s (TEJ3M) and went over their final project which will be from the lego robotics unit.  I then showed the students an electronic copy of their assignment and mentioned to them what the specifics were (a copy of the assignment can be found below).  I then talked to the grade 12’s (TEJ4M) and went over their final project which will be from the electronic arduino unit.  I also went over an electronic copy of their assignment and mentioned to them what the specifics were (a copy of the assignment can be found below).  The final assignment for both grades are due on the last day of class which is today (Thur Jan 22).  If there are any questions the students have I can be emailed directly at abawa@office.ldcsb.on.ca.

I began the class today by taking up any questions the students had from the homework I assigned from the last few days (from Fri Jan 16 to Mon Jan 20 – see blog postings for Jan 16, 19 & 20 for further details).  After taking up the questions, I then told the students that I would be giving them a practice final exam to work on in class today.  I told the students that I would post the solutions for this practice exam (see below) but also took up any questions in class that students had from the practice exam as well (I did this using both the black board and digital projector).  Students can email me directly if they have any questions from the either practice exam or from any of the review questions I assigned from the last few days (abawa@office.ldcsb.on.ca).

I began the class today by taking up any questions the students had from the homework I assigned yesterday.  After taking up the questions, I then told the students we would be continuing with the in class exam review we had started yesterday.  I then put questions on the board and had the students try them at their desks.  Once the students had a chance to write something down, I then called students up to the board to put up their answers.  We then took up the questions as a class.  We did this for the remainder of the period.  I told the students we would continue this activity tomorrow as well.  I also assigned questions for the students to work on for exam review fro m the last few days (Pages 186 to 188 #1 to 18 – I assigned this on Fri Jan 16; Pages 382 to 384 #1 to 29 – I assigned this on Mon Jan 19; Page 526 #1 to 12 – I assigned this Tue Jan 20).  I will take up any questions the students have from the review at the start of tomorrow’s class or students can email me directly if they have any questions (abawa@office.ldcsb.on.ca).

I began the class today by taking up any questions the students had from the homework I assigned yesterday.  After taking up the questions, I then told the students we would be continuing with the in class exam review we had started yesterday.  I then put questions on the board and had the students try them at their desks.  Once the students had a chance to write something down, I then called students up to the board to put up their answers.  We then took up the questions as a class.  We did this for the remainder of the period.  I told the students we would continue this activity for the next 2 days (exam review ends on Thur Jan 22).  I also assigned questions for the students to work on tonight for homework (Pages 186 to 188 #1 to 18 – I assigned this on Fri Jan 16; Pages 382 to 384 #1 to 29 – I assigned this on Mon Jan 19; Page 526 #1 to 12 – I assigned this today).  I will take up any questions the students have from the review at the start of tomorrow’s class or students can email me directly if they have any questions (abawa@office.ldcsb.on.ca).

MFM1P – Jan 19, 2015

IMPORTANT:  THE FINAL EXAM FOR THIS CLASS IS ON WED JAN 28 AND IS WORTH 21% OF THE STUDENTS’ FINAL GRADE.  THE EXAM STARTS AT 8:50AM AND IS 2 HOURS LONG (STUDENTS CAN LEAVE AFTER THE FIRST HOUR IF THEY FINISH EARLY).  STUDENTS SHOULD TRY TO COME TO CLASS BY 8:30AM TO HAND IN THEIR TEXTBOOKS, ASK ANY QUESTIONS…ETC.  STUDENTS ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO BRING A PENCIL, RULER, ERASER AND A SCIENTIFIC CALCULATOR.  PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES (IE. PHONES, MP3 PLAYERS…ETC) WILL NOT BE PERMITTED DURING THE EXAM.  STUDENTS CAN COME TO SCHOOL ON THUR JAN 29 TO VIEW THEIR FINAL MARKS FOR THE COURSE, CULMINATING TASK AND FINAL EXAM (TIMES STUDENTS CAN COME IN TO VIEW THIS – TO BE ANNOUNCED).  IF THERE IS A CANCELLATION DUE TO A WEATHER DELAY THEN THERE WILL BE A REVISED SCHEDULE.  I HAVE POSTED A DOCUMENT BELOW OUTLINING THE POSSIBLE REVISED SCHDULES IF THERE IS A CANCELLATION. 

Exam Reminders and Cancellations due to Inclement Weather

I began the class today by taking up any questions the students had from the homework I assigned on Fri Jan 16 which were the worksheets titled “Adding & Subtracting Polynomials Worksheet” and “Using Distributive Property Worksheet” (see the Jan 16 blog posting for further details).  After taking up these worksheets, I then told the students we would be starting review for the final exam.  I first went over a specific breakdown of the exam.  I then put questions on the board and had them try them at their desks.  Once the students had a chance to write something down, I then called students up to the board to put up their answers.  We then took up the questions as a class.  We did this for the remainder of the period.  I told the students we would continue this activity for the next 3 days (exam review ends on Thur Jan 22).  On Jan 14 I assigned a package titled “MFM1P Exam Review #1” which I gave the students after they wrote booklet 1 of EQAO.  I told the students that they are to do this package for homework tonight, if they haven’t already, and that I would take it up at the start of class tomorrow.  I also assigned another exam review for the students that are finished the first review titled “MFM1P Exam Review #2”.  I will take up the questions from this review package at the start of class on Wed Jan 20.  Students can email me directly if they have any questions about either reviews  (abawa@office.ldcsb.on.ca).
