I began the class today by showing the students a resource they can use to help them learn more about the specifics of hardware components. The resource was from youtube. Here is the link to the resource: (http://www.youtube.com/user/professormesser/videos?view=0). Students can search for specific things such as “motherboard chipset” within the channel and then watch the videos to learn more about various hardware items.

General List of Various Computer Parts (this sheet is to be used as a reference to help the students put their computer back together again)
I began the class today by mentioning to those students that did not finish their motherboard labeling group assignment from Fri Sept 5. Students were to get a computer from the back room and take it apart to get to the motherboard. Once they got to the motherboard, I gave them a reference sheet titled “Motherboard Labeled” with which they are to label the motherboard using sticky notes. Once the group has labeled as much as they can, they are to call me over so I can take a picture of their labeled motherboard for a completion mark. The students can then try to put their motherboard back into the computer and also try to add other parts back in the computer to see if they can put it back together again. Once the students were finished this task, I then asked them to use the second reference sheet titled “General List of Various Computer Parts” and label individual pieces from the computer we had at the back of the classroom. They were to again label these parts with sticky notes and then call me over to take a picture.
Once the students were completed this task, they were to work on the assignment titled “Computer Ports & Connectors Assignment”. The students are to do this assignment on the computer (they have to be able to drag the pictures to the correct box in the table) and then will save it as “Name_ComputerPorts.doc”. They will then hand it in to the hand-in folder. No due date for this assignment has been given yet.
I also reminded students that I will be giving them a quiz at the start of tomorrow’s class. Students will have to drag and drop terms to a diagram of a motherboard and also a diagram of a computer (general parts). Below you will the pictures of the diagrams so students can study for the quiz tomorrow.
