Today was an introduction to the course. The students were given their course outline at the start of the class. We discussed the topics the students would be covering throughout this semester. We also discussed the late/missing assignment policies for London District Catholic School board.
After going over the course outline and late/missing assignment policies, I then gave the students some work to do. The students had 30 minutes in class to work and the rest was for homework. This is a review of the essential skills (prerequisite) for the course. I will be taking up and checking homework tomorrow and we will be starting with section 1.1 Functions as well. The students will have a diagnostic test on Friday Sept 5 related to the review homework I assigned today.
Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.
Late – Missing Assignment Policy (LDCSB)
Review of Prerequisite Skills (students were given their textbook today, these are specific questions from the textbook I want students to do)
Fractions – Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying & Dividing (I wrote these examples on the board to help the students recall some basics about fractions)
I’m confused about multiplying fractions. They both have a whole number, does that change anything?

If you are dealing with 2 mixed fractions for example, then you can convert them to improper fractions, multiply the fractions and then convert back to a mixed fraction if you end up with an improper fraction. I will take this up in class tomorrow.

Hi Sam,
thank you for letting me know. I will have my blog posting for Thur Sept 4 after we have our class. I usually get the blog posting up between 11:30am and 1:30pm everyday. Please check after 1:30 tomorrow and you should see it there. I will be continuing with section 1.1 The Characteristics of a Function and will then be doing section 1.5 The Domain and Range of a Function (if there is time). I will take pictures of the lesson and also will post the homework. Take care and see you Friday. Don’t forget, you have your diagnostic test Friday.
