MFM1P – Jan 8, 2015

IMPORTANT: THE STUDENTS WILL BE WRITING THE EQAO GRADE 9 MATH ASSESSMENT ON JAN 14 AND JAN 15 (THERE ARE 2 DAYS OF THE ASSESSMENT).  STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE PRESENT ON BOTH DAYS.  I WILL BE COUNTING THE EQAO TEST AS THE CULMINATING ACTIVITY FOR THE COURSE WHICH IS 9% OF THE STUDENTS’ FINAL GRADE IN THE COURSE.

I began the class today by taking up the worksheets I had assigned for homework on Jan 6 titled “Parallel and Perpendicular Lines Worksheet” on the digital projector.  I wanted to make sure I went over this worksheet because there were a few things I needed to clarify from it (there were some questions I had to “OMIT” or ignore because the students had not learned this concept and it was not a part of the lesson).  After taking up the worksheet, I then told the students we would be doing a new lesson today.  The lesson was titled “Linear Equations”.  I wanted to go over a few important concepts before moving on so I told the students to pay attention closely to the lesson today.  I went over 2 ways to graph a line (using slope/y-intercept form and using a table of values) and also did a few word problems related to the form y= mx + b (this is related to the homework for today).  The homework today was titled “Linear Equations Worksheet”.  I told the students to try all of the questions in this package and that I would take up any questions the students had at the start of tomorrow’s class.

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.
