MFM1P – Dec 11, 2014

I began the class today by taking up the answers to the package that I gave the students Tue Dec 9 titled “EQAO Practice Questions – Graphing Relations – Part 3”.  I went over the questions on the digital projector.  After going over the answers, I then showed the students some “exemplars” for EQAO open response questions.  Exemplars are examples of how students answers an open response questions and what a level 1, 2, 3 or 4 would look like.  After showing the students these exemplars, I then told the students that we would be doing 2 mini-lessons today.  The first lesson was related to the homework I had assigned in class yesterday and was titled “6.1 Recognizing Linear Relations”.  I introduced the term “first differences” and then gave the students some examples before re-assigning the homework I told the students to do in class yesterday (Pages 194 to 196 #1 to 7).  Once I finished this lesson, I then moved on to the next lesson which was titled “6.2 Average Speed as a Rate of Change”.  I only briefly had a chance to go over the concept of rate of change and how it was related to the rise/run of 2 points on a graph.  I did 2 examples before assigning the homework (Pages 199 & 200 #1 to 5).  I will continue with a lesson on section 6.2 at the start of class tomorrow so I can give the students some more examples to help further their understanding.

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.

EQAO Practice Questions – Graphing Relations – Part 3 Answers

EQAO Applied Math Exemplars (2012 – 2013) (I showed this on the digital projector to show the students what a level 1, 2, 3 & 4 would look like for an open response question)

Dec 11 – Lesson – 6.1 Recognizing Linear Relations

Dec 11 – Lesson – 6.2 Average Speed as a Rate of Change

Chapter 6 Linear Relations – pages 190 – 250 (Students are to do the following questions for homework – Pages 194 to 196 #1 to 7 – from section 6.1 Recognizing Linear Relations and Pages 199 & 200 #1 to 5)

Below are the answers for both section 6.1 & 6.2.  Please note, for page 2, it scanned upside down, so in adobe acrobat click on view, rotate view and then clockwise to fix it.
