TEJ3M/4M – Nov 19, 2014

The grade 12’s (TEJ4M) were to continue using the lego mindstorm robots.  For the second track, the students have to go through it using the touch and proximity sensors. For the first part of the track, the robot has to go straight until it hits the paper (touch sensor), reverse, turn left and then see the paper a certain number of centimetres away (proximity senor), reverse, turn left again and then stop at the end of the tape. This track is to be marked for completion.  Also, the students will have to submit their NXC code for this track as well (must be commented).  Once the students have finished the second course using the touch and proximity sensor, they are to work on the third course which uses the light sensor.  Below you will find a copy of a sample course my students did a few years ago.  The students will have to do 2 tasks with this course.  The first task is the robot will be put on the black line and it will have to follow the line continuously in a loop.  The second task is the robot will be put somewhere off of the line, it will have to move foward and then pick up he line and start following it in a loop.  This track is to be marked for completion. Also, the students will have to submit their NXC code for this track as well (must be commented).

The grade 11’s (TEJ3M) should now be working on the “Arduino Boards” which is something I demonstrated to the students on Wed Nov 5. Students were asked ahead of time to bring in a laptop (if possible) so they could begin working with the kits right away. I asked the students to bring in their own laptop so we don’t run into any problems with the computers at school (Eg./ installing drivers…etc). The Ardunio software has now been installed on the school computers but is still in the testing stages. I gave the students a document titled “MEGA2560 Stater Kit Tutoral” which has all of the tutorials the students will need to complete the various circuits. I told them to do “Chapter 3 Blink LED”, “Chapter 4 PWM”, “Chapter 5 Advertising LED”, “Chapter 7 Traffic Light LED”, “Chapter 6 Buzzer”, and “Chapter 9 Potentiometer” from the “MEGA2560 Stater Kit Tutoral” document. Once the students are finished the above arduino tutorials, they are to work on the arduino assignment titled “Nursery Rhyme – Baa Baa Black Sheep Assignment”. A copy of the assignment can be found below. Also, I will post 2 youtube videos below which are examples of what the students should be doing for the “Nursery Rhyme – Baa Baa Black Sheep Assignment”.

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.

TEJ3M & TEJ4M – List of students work not submitted (updated) (The students can look at this list to see which assignments/worksheets they still need to hand in. Students MUST tell me when they hand something in so I can update the list)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 1 (this is the coding examples for the “Bricx Command Centre” software – The TEJ4M students only)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 2 (this is the coding examples for the “Bricx Command Centre” software – The TEJ4M students only)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 3 (this is the coding examples for the “Bricx Command Centre” software – The TEJ4M students only)

Second Course – This is the track the students should now be working on using the touch and proximity sensors (this is the actual course I created for the students in class – The TEJ4M students only)

Third Course – Line Follower Course Using Light Sensor – Sample Course from a few years ago (Once the studens finish the track in the link above, they are to do the line follower course using the light sensor.  Here is a sample of what the track looks like)

MEGA2560 Starter Kit Tutorial (this document contains the tutorials the students will be working on with the arduino board)

Arduinio Blinking Light (Chapter 3) Picture Example (I showed this to the students in class to help them set up their arduino board with the laptop and breadboard trainer)
