TEJ3M/4M – Oct 20, 2014

REMINDERS:  PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS  ARE OCT 23 SO PLEASE TRY TO BOOK A TIME WITH ME ASAP.  PROGRESS REPORTS WERE GIVEN OUT ON FRI OCT 17.  STUDENTS ARE TO RETURN THE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE PROGRESS REPORT ASAP (SIGNED BY PARENTS IF YOU ARE LESS THAN 18 YEARS OLD).

The grade 12’s (TEJ4M) were to continue with their “race bots” using lego mindstorm.  They are to build a race car of their own design that will be timed in the hall for 30 tiles (the tiles equal to 30ft in length).  On Oct 14 I gave the students 3 resources to help them better understand “Gear Ratios” which will help them design a robot that will be fast.  The 3 resources can be found below.

I showed the grade 11’s (TEJ3M) a few examples of what they were going to be doing next.  The students were to first use a program called “Java Virtual Breadboard” (this is in the hand-out folder at school or it can be downloaded from the link:  http://www.cs.york.ac.uk/netpro/bboard/running.html) to make a few circuits to help them understand a some introductory concepts.  The circuits they were to make on the virtual breadboard software are: 1.) a series circuit; 2.) a parallel circuit; 3.) a series & parallel circuit.  I showed the students an example on the digital projector (I will post the examples below).  The students are to take screen shots of each of these circuits, post them into word and then hand it in.  Once the students are finished doing these 3 circuits, they are to do the same circuits on the “breadboard trainer” (this is where they actually do the wiring).  I gave them a few examples as well  which I showed the the digital projector (I will post the examples below).  Once the students do each of these circuits, they are to call me over to take a picture of their circuit with the iPad.   We will continue with this activity at the start of tomorrow’s class.

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.
