TEJ3M/4M – Oct 16, 2014

REMINDER:  PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS  ARE OCT 23 SO PLEASE TRY TO BOOK A TIME WITH ME ASAP.

I began the class yesterday by talking to the students about the video they wanted in class yesterday called “Digital Nation” (see the Oct 15 blog posting for further details).  The video is 90 minutes in length, but they only saw 50 minutes of the video yesterday.  If students wish to watch the remainder of the video, here is the link below:

I students were to fill out a worksheet titled “Digital Nation Worksheet” to hand in to me (electronically).  I went over the questions from this worksheet on the digital projector and I talked to the students about how they could fill it out.  If students do not finish this worksheet at school, they can email it to me directly as well (abawa@office.ldcsb.on.ca).  This worksheet is for the whole class (both TEJ3M & TEJ4M).

After talking to the students about the worksheet, I then told the grade 12’s (TEJ4M) to continue with their “race bots” using lego mindstorm.  They are to build a race car of their own design that will be timed in the hall for 30 tiles (the tiles equal to 30ft in length).  On Oct 14 I gave the students 3 resources to help them better understand “Gear Ratios” which will help them design a robot that will be fast.  The 3 resources can be found below.

The grade 11’s (TEJ3M) were to finish their resistance assignment from last week (see Oct 14 blog posting for further details).  Today is the last day I give the students to finish up any outstanding assignments before moving on to the next activity.

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.

Race Car Bot Times (examples) (these are examples of the race bots my students completed in previous years and the times they received for 30 tiles)
