TEJ3M/4M – Oct 8, 2014

REMINDERS:  WE ARE IN A DIFFERENT CLASSROOM TOMORROW ONLY (ROOM 249).  PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS  ARE OCT 23 SO PLEASE TRY TO BOOK A TIME WITH ME ASAP.  TOMORROW IS OUR THANKSGIVING LITURGY SO THERE IS A REVISED SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY.  I POSTED THE SCHEDULE BELOW. 

Thanksgiving Liturgy Revised Schedule for the Day

IMPORTANT:  THE STUDENTS WILL BE HAVING A UNIT TEST ON FRI  OCT 10 ON BOTH THE HARDWARE AND NUMBER SYSTEM UNITS.  I WILL GIVE THE STUDENTS MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE TEST TOMORROW AND WILL REVIEW IN MORE DETAIL WHAT THEY NEED TO KNOW FOR THE TEST. 

The grade 12’s (TEJ4M) were to continue working with the lego mindstorms robotics.  After the students did “The First Program” from the pdf titled “Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 1″, I then asked them to write code to have their robot move forward for 4 seconds, stop, turn left, stop and then go forward for another 4 seconds.  I then made a track for the students using electrical tape on the floor in the classroom.  I asked the students to code the robots to go around the track twice using the tutorial to help them figure it out.  I am then to take a video of a successful trial and then will either approve the students to move on to the next task or tell them to make changes to their code or robot before I can let them move on.  The have yet to video tape a successful run from the students.  We will continue with the first track tomorrow.

I told the grade 11’s (TEJ3M) that I would be showing them a PowerPoint presentation on the digital projector to introduce our electronics unit (I will post the presentation below).  The title of the presentation was “Intro to Electronics”.  I gave the students a worksheet titled “Intro To Electronics Worksheet”.  I asked the students to fill in the blanks as I went through the presentation.  At the end of the presentation I took up the answers with the students.  Once the presentation was completed, I then gave them an assignment to do titled “Resistance Assignment”.  I gave the students an example to help them figure out how to do this assignment.  Students are to do their assignment in Microsoft Word or a similar program and then hand it in.  I will give the students until the end of tomorrow class to hand this assignment in.
