PLEASE NOTE: TODAY THERE IS A REVISED SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY FOR JAPAN DAY (STUDENTS FROM JAPAN WILL BE VISITING OUR SCHOOL TOMORROW). THERE ARE A FEW SLIGHT CHANGES TO THE SCHEDULE. YOU WILL FIND THE SCHEDULE BELOW.
Japan Day – Revised Schedule for the Day
IMPORTANT: THE STUDENTS WILL BE HAVING A UNIT TEST ON FRI OCT 10 ON BOTH THE HARDWARE AND NUMBER SYSTEM UNITS. I WILL GIVE THE STUDENTS MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE TEST NEXT WEEK AND WILL REVIEW IN MORE DETAIL WHAT THEY NEED TO KNOW FOR THE TEST.
I mentioned to all the students at the start of the class today that I would be going over what they need to know for the test this Friday in tomorrow’s class.
The grade 12’s (TEJ4M) were to continue working with the lego mindstorms robotics again today (they will be working in this unit for the next few weeks). I asked the students to read the pdf instructions for building their first robot (the students started this unit yesterday). This pdf was titled “Express Bot Driving Base – Step By Step”. Once the students were finished building this robot, they were to read over the pdf titled “Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 1″. I asked the students to write the code for “The First Program” using the program called “Bricx Command Centre” (see the Oct 6 blog posting for further details). Once the students were able to do the first program I then asked them to write code to have their robot move forward for 4 seconds, stop, turn left, stop and then go forward for another 4 seconds. I then started to make a track for the students using electric tape and told the students that I would like them to start coding for the track. I will take a picture of the completed track tomorrow and will post it on the blog.
The grade 11’s (TEJ3M) were to continue working on the activity I had assigned them to do yesterday working with the website “The Logic Lab (see the Oct 6 blog posting for further details about the assignment). I told the students this activity was due by the end of class today (there were 3 students away yesterday, I told them they would hand it in tomorrow). Once the students were finished the activity, I gave them a worksheet to work on titled “Logic Gates Worksheet #2”. The students were to complete this worksheet and then hand it in once they were finished. I mentioned to those students that were finished everything that we would be starting the electricity unit.
Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.
Oct 7 – Logic Gates Worksheet #2 (with answers) (I gave this worksheet to those students that finished their activity from yesterday using the Logic Labs website)
Express Bot Driving Base – Step By Step (instructions for building their first robot – the TEJ4M students only)
Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 1 (this is the coding examples for the “Bricx Command Centre” software – The TEJ4M students only)
Oct 6 – Basic Logic Gates Using Logic Lab Example #1 (this activity was due today by the end of class – see the Oct 6 blog posting for further details)
