MCF3M – Oct 2, 2014

I began the class today by taking up any questions the students had from yesterday’s homework.  There were 2 questions the students had so I took them up on the digital projector.  After taking up the questions with the students, I then moved on to a little warm up activity before we started the new lesson today.  I played jeopardy with the students reviewing the concepts of “common factoring” which we did in yesterday’s lesson.  I called 2 students up to the front and then I asked them to choose 1 of the 5 questions and then they competed against each other.  After this warm up activity we moved on to the lesson which was titled “2.3 Factoring Quadratic Expressions of the Form ax^2+bx+c where a = 1”.  We first reviewed a number of things the students needed to know before I taught them how to factor and then I gave them a number of examples.  I then assigned the homework for the students to work on for the remainder of the period (Pages 99 & 100 #2, 3 5 – 9).  I will continue with a new lesson tomorrow which is titled “2.4 Factoring Quadratic Expressions of the Form ax^2+bx+c where a is not equal to 1”.

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.

Take-up of the homework from Oct 1 (Page 93 #6f & 7a)
