Terry Fox Walk Sept 25, 2014 (Revised Day Schedule)
I began the class today by showing the students the EQAO website where they can download practice tests to help them study for the EQAO Math Assessment at the end of the semester (This is sometime in at the end of January, a week to two weeks before final exams. The EQAO will be counted as the students’ culminating task for the course which is 10% of their overall grade). I downloaded the assessments from 2010 to 2014 and showed the students a few sample questions from the unit we are currently working on (Chapter 4 Ratios & Proportions). I told the students that it would be a good idea for them to review some of the questions on their own from these practice assessments to see what kinds of questions they are required to know for each chapter we go through. I will post the 2009 to 2014 EQAO practice assessments below.
After talking to the students about EQAO, I then took up the answers to the package I gave the students yesterday (see the Sept 23 blog posting for further details). After taking up the answers, I then moved on to the lesson for today which was titled “4.3 Unit Rates”. I did a definition for unit rate and then gave a few examples before assigning the homework (pages 123 to 124 #1 – 9). I will take up any homework questions the students have at the start of class tomorrow or students can email me their questions directly.
