REMINDER: THE STUDENTS WILL BE HAVING AN IN-CLASS OPEN BOOK ASSIGNMENT ON MON SEPT 15 RELATED TO ALL OF THE MATERIAL WE HAVE DONE IN SO FAR (THERE INCLUDE ALL OF THE WORK THE STUDENTS HAVE DONE FROM THE WORKSHEETS THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN). I WILL DO REVIEW QUESTIONS WITH THE STUDENTS TOMORROW TO HELP THEM PREPARE.
I began the class today by taking up any questions the students had from the homework yesterday which were the worksheets “Adding & Subtracting Fractions” and “Multiplying & Dividing Fractions” (I also posted the answers to these worksheets on yesterday’s blog posting – Sept 10). Once I finished taking up the answers to the worksheets, I then moved on to the first part of the lesson for today which was titled “Simple Substitution”. I did some examples before giving the students the second worksheet titled “Variable Substitution & Fractions Worksheet”. I put some adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing fraction questions on this worksheet to help the students review these concepts from yesterday’s class. I then moved on to the second part of the lesson today which was a continuation of the lesson from yesterday with fractions but was titled “Fraction Word Problems”. I showed the students a resource on the internet where they can do practice questions to help them with various topics in grade 9 applied which is also aligned with the Ontario Curriculum. We did a few fraction word problems practice question from this site. Here is the link to the site: http://ca.ixl.com/standards/ontario/math. I will take up homework at the start of class tomorrow.
Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.
Sept 11 – Fraction Word Problems – (Unlike Denominator) Worksheet (this is homework for today)
Sept 11 – Variable Substitution & Fractions Worksheet (this is homework for today)
If I have a chance today, I will post the answers to these worksheets this evening. Otherwise I will take them up at the start of class tomorrow.
