TEJ3M/4M – Sept 9, 2014

The students had a hardware quiz at the start of today’s class.  I had given the students a study sheet for the quiz on the Sept 8 blog posting (I will repost the study sheet on this posting for those students that were away today).  Once the students were finished the quiz, I told them that they were to work on 1 of the following things:

1.) labeling motherboard with sticky notes (if not finished); 2.) labeling general computer parts with sticky notes (if not finished); 3.) Computer Ports & Connectors Assignment (due tomorrow by the end of class); 4.) Custom Made Computer Assignment (students were given this assignment today, no due date for this assignment has been given).

For my grade 12’s in the class (those enrolled in TEJ4M), I mentioned to them I would have them work independently on a project that will most likely take them the semester to do which is to build a working computer submerged in mineral oil.  There are 4 grade 12’s, and they are to divide the tasks among themselves and also document everything that they do towards creating this mineral oil computer.  I have not yet given the students a formal marking scheme for this project but told them that I will count project as a part of their culminating activity.  For now, here is a link to a youtube video showing how the students can create a mineral oil computer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJdUhtD1zns).

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class
